Trim, Molding and Finish Carpentry in Sussex County

Finish carpentry is the work people notice without knowing they're noticing it. The miters that don't line up. The baseboard that doesn't meet the floor. The crown that waves along the ceiling. Done well, none of it calls attention to itself.

What's included

  • Baseboard.
  • Casing.
  • Crown molding.
  • Chair rail and wainscoting.
  • Window and door trim.
  • Stair trim and skirt boards.
  • Built-in shelving.
  • Closet shelving and systems.
  • Mantels.
  • Trim repair and replacement.

Scribing

Good trim in an older house is cut to fit the house, not to the theoretical angle. Nothing in a real house is square. Floors aren't flat, corners aren't 90 degrees, walls aren't plumb.

Scribing is the practice of fitting the trim to what's actually there, so the joint closes instead of gaping. It's the difference between trim that looks like it belongs and trim that looks like it was dropped in. That single idea is what separates this work from a quick pass with a nail gun.
